Careful use of natural resources

Careful use of natural resources is a heartfelt concern at the Grischa. This hotel is committed to actively reducing its CO₂ emissions and optimising its energy efficiency. To achieve these goals, the Grischa is a voluntary participant in the programme operated by the Energy Agency of the Swiss Private Sector (EnAW), which is recognized by the Federal government and the cantons. The average CO₂ consumption among all the 3,500 businesses that participate in the EnAW programme is about 20 kg per overnight stay. At the Grischa, consumption is just 5.6 kg per overnight stay – close to the optimum level – and it saves around 20,000 litres of heating oil each year thanks to its solar energy system and heat pumps. An ingenious lighting system and central heating control also make it possible to save massive amounts of electricity. Eco-electricity accounts for 100% of the hotel's power supply. Many materials from the local region were used in the construction of the Grischa. Wood from former stables was reprocessed, and the granite comes from the Bernina region.

Guests enjoy the best Davos water, served in the hotel's own bottles that are produced in Europe. The water is sold in the restaurant at CHF 2.00 per bottle, and half of the proceeds are donated to good causes. The extensive wine list features over 180 vintages – and all of them originate from Europe. 

In close collaboration with La Capriola Foundation, the hotel trains four apprentices in need of support so they can obtain professional qualifications. The Grischa also supports other social projects such as Childhood Cancer Switzerland and Plussport (Disabled Sports Switzerland).
